PCAN Driver Installation on Windows

Before You Begin

• Close applications that may already be using a PCAN channel.
• Obtain the current Windows driver from the hardware package or the software vendor's current download channel.
• Check the package release notes for the supported Windows editions and architectures.

Install

1. Extract the downloaded package if it is archived.
2. Run the driver installer with an account permitted to install device drivers.
3. Select the PCAN driver components and, when needed, PCAN-View.
4. Finish the installation before connecting the adapter unless the package instructions say otherwise.
5. Connect the adapter directly to a USB port for the first detection test.

Verify

1. Open Device Manager and locate the connected CAN device.
2. Open its properties and confirm that Windows reports the device as working.
3. On the Driver tab, record the provider and driver version.
4. Open PCAN-View and confirm that the expected channel appears.
5. Select the correct bit rate and bus mode before attempting traffic.

Detection in Device Manager confirms that the driver loaded; it does not by itself confirm bus wiring, bit timing, termination, or application-level interoperability.

Reinstall or Remove

Use Installed apps or Programs and Features to remove the driver package. If Windows still associates the device with an old package, remove the device from Device Manager only after recording the current driver details. Reboot when the installer or uninstaller requests it, then repeat the verification steps.

Preserve the test scope

When troubleshooting, record the adapter model, application profile and version when applicable, driver version, Windows version, selected channel, bit rate, bus mode, tested software, and date.
